two of the beleifs of the puritans

Here are two beleifs that the puritans follow:total depravity and limited atonement. toatal depravity is the beleif that states that through adam and eve's fall, everyone is born sinful. that's something that i personally, can not get the concept of. that was one of the beleifs that the puritans shared. Another beleif that the puritans stronglly take beleif in is called, Limited atonement. this belief states that jesus died only for the chosen and that gods grace is freely given. those were two beliefs that i saw an example of in the film , sinners of an angry god. during the movis these words were said, Only a few can be saved by god, the rest were sent to hell. that was quotetd in that films which gave an example of limites atonement. there were other examples of the belief total depravity. during the film there were statments made saying that everyone was full of sin so therefore everyone was burned in hell!!! those are two of the beliefs that the puritans believed.

Puritans vs. Rationalist

A beleif is something that were all entitled to have. Some peoples beleifs are considered as there relgion, so therefore they follow that religion. Here are some of the main beleifs that existed betweent the puritans and the rationalist back in the late 1700's.

starting with the puritans, which were which was a religous group that advocated for more purity. they puritans actully had two different levels of beleifs: The individual level and The church body level. Most puritans followed the church body level of beleifs. This, beleif was that the puritans that worship in the church ought to be strictly regulated by what is commanded in the Bible (known as the regulative principal of worship. If you followed the individial level of beleif that means you also worshiped god but in a different manner. The individual beleif was stated as of which each person should be continually reformed by the grace of God to fight against indwelling sin and do what is right before God. those are two the beleifs that the puritans shared. but today in the modern age people share the same similar thoughs, like me for instants, i beleive that god has control over all human life. And only god can determine how long you live on this earth. So that 's why i worship god and praise him every sunday.

The Rationalist on the other hand, their beleifs were just a little different from the puritans. the rationalist shared different levels of religon as well as the puritans. The rationalist participated in a religous movement called the deism, which was a beleif based on science ans mathematics. these people of deism believen god but not that he controlled everything. The natural laws are what make uop there people in the human society. I found that to be a little awkard, but what the heck!! But today in this day in age, i really havent meet anyone yet who still believes that theory and when i do i will make sure i document it.

No matter what people may beleive or what their religion may because at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion, or should i say beleif. The puritans and the Rationalist shared totally different beliefs. The beliefs of the puritans are what make the puritans the puritans. The beliefs of the rationalist are what nake them the rationalist.

The way the puritans lived

Well, the sinners in the hands of god video showed some strange ways of living as well as their beliefs. The video was about how the puritans only beleived that god saved only a few people and the rest was going to hell. i really felt like that was a messed up way to carry on in life. Because i was raised by different beleifs and that was, everyone was created by god. so, therefore every one was considerd as a blessing and not of a sin.

They also believed that there was no way to earn gods grace, it was left to the saints to interpret the word of God. I though was an ignorant way to think and carry on in life with that particular mind frame. When i discovered that the puritans believed in the opposite of what i was raised to believe, which i find is the normal way to believe, kind of distirbed me. God dosent discriminate against anyone. not even if they have commited a sin because there's always room for forgiveness in God's eyes. So therefore i felt like the way those people lived was very uncommon.

The passage that i read from the William Bradford's plymouth plantation history source was appealing to me. I was interested by that passage because it was a little more relating to me then the ''sinners in the hands of an angry god'. it was refreshing to read about people that think like normal children of god should think!! these people obviously worship god and god only and feels that god is always around to help and save. No matter what the situation and what type of the person they are.

I've realized that these are people who call on god whenever they are in some kind of tragic situaiton. so that tells me that they think of him to be a very powerful person and that there's no limit to who interprets the word of god. Thats something that i find very common for people to do, unlike the people of the "Sinners in the hand of and angry god'. But when it's all said and done there are always going to be people that have their own beliefs which is nonthing wrong with that. Because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. weather they think everyone is full of sin or not but i guess only god could determine who goes to heaven or hell.

The Puritan's Belief

Here are a couple of the puritan’s beliefs that I found very awakening. The Total Depravity Belief: is based through Adam and eve’s fall. This belief is that every person is born sinful, that is the concept of the original sin. This means, from my point of view that everyone is born sinful. I personal don’t understand that but, oh well!! Another one of the puritan belief is the Unconditional Election Belief: which states that God saves only who he wishes – only a few are selected for salvation. Saying that god only saves the ones who worship him and the rest burn in hell. Those are a couple of the puritan’s beliefs but there are more where that came from!!
